Kinoko Terra is changing how gourmet and functional mushrooms are produced. Our proprietary processes cut carbon emissions by more than 70%, reduce labour, and eliminate single-use plastics from production. At our Yarker facility, we are finalizing the methods and formulations that will take our R&D into commercial production.

We are looking for a Research Assistant who brings scientific discipline to hands-on work. You will help run and document cultivation trials in a working production environment. Your records of processes, timings, conditions and yields will directly shape the methods we commercialize.

This is not a desk job. Half the work is careful observation and record-keeping, and the other half is getting your hands dirty in the grow space.

Key responsibilities:

• Set up, run and monitor cultivation trials according to defined protocols
• Record all trial data accurately and consistently, including inputs, process steps, timings, environmental conditions and yields
• Keep trial records organized so results can be compared and repeated
• Take part in weekly harvests: picking, weighing and recording yields
• Do general facility work, including substrate handling, cleaning and light physical labour
• Flag deviations, anomalies and observations to the team, and help refine protocols based on results

Qualifications:

• Solid grasp of research fundamentals: following protocols, controlling variables, avoiding contamination and keeping accurate records
• Strong attention to detail and comfort with spreadsheets or other data tools
• Willingness to do physical work, including lifting, standing for long periods, and working in humid grow environments
• A genuine interest in mycology;
• Reliable transportation to Yarker
• Schedule and availability
• 15–20 hours per week with no fixed schedule
• You must be available for weekly harvests. Mushrooms set the timing, so harvest days can shift from week to week.
• We will work around class schedules wherever possible.
