Today is the day to boost your career! Pinchin’s Kingston office is offering a 4 or 8-month co-op placement for a Field and AutoCAD Technician within the Hazardous Materials and Environmental Due Diligence & Remediation groups for the Fall/Winter 2022/2023 term. 

This is an ideal position for any student looking for practical, hands-on experience to complement their academic program. You will learn about the business and build your own professional network by working closely with senior professionals in the industry. 

A Day in the life of a Field Technician at Pinchin:

• Provide in-office support to staff by completing AutoCAD drawings to be included in client reports

• Provide field support for Project Technologists, including note taking, sampling and other job-related responsibilities

• Conduct groundwater monitoring and soil sampling

• Conduct City Directory searches and oversee Utility Locates

• Shadow and supervise drilling

• Summarize data and drawings

• Inspect and test during environmental remediation

• Conduct indoor air quality surveys

• Conduct investigations of buildings for the presence of building materials containing designated substances (asbestos, lead, mercury, silica) and other hazardous materials such as mould and PCBs

• Record the type, quantity and location of specific building materials/equipment

• Collect bulk and air samples for laboratory analysis

• Interpret sample results in relation to legislative requirements and industry accepted guidelines

• Prepare assessment and inspection reports including recommendations

• Liaise between clients and contractors

• Develop and maintain positive client relationships

What you bring to the Pinchin team:

• Pursuing a degree/diploma in either environmental science, environmental engineering, civil, architectural, geology, or equivalent

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook is required

• Experience with AutoCAD Light 2014

• Experience preparing detailed drawings; Students may be required to go to site to draw the building, but will also be preparing the drawing from existing drawings or hand sketches

• Relevant work experience will be considered an asset

• Strong ethical principles

• High attention to detail

• Excellent communications skills, flexibility to meet client schedules (some evenings/weekend work) and a willingness to learn new skills are essential.

• Current and valid driver’s license with sufficient insurance, and access to a vehicle required (work-related travel will be compensated)
