Independent Telephone Services is a local business that has been in Kingston since 1986. We currently have full-time openings for 1 experienced Network Cabling Technician and 1 Trainee Position to join our staff. The nature of the telecommunications business can vary day by day. The ideal candidate will be flexible and able to deal well with a hectic, constantly changing environment. 

Must be positive, energetic, and able work well under pressure. Excellent communication skills, numeracy, logical thinking, task planning, initiative, organizing and prioritizing, significant memory use, computer use, and continuous learning is required. Exceptional people skills, patience and understanding of the customers’ needs and customer service experience is a must. Must also be dependable and punctual. 

Occupational Tasks:

  • Travel to customers' premises to install, maintain, or repair, Voice /Data /Audio /Video infrastructure. (CAT5e, CAT6, low voltage cables, 25 pair, 50 pair, and Fiber.)
  • Running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables according to technical specifications for low voltage applications including but not limited to telephone systems, computer networks, paging systems, camera systems etc.
  • Install data equipment including racks and patch panels.
  • Install cable pathway systems - cable trays, cable racks, cabinets, J-hooks.
  • Inspect or test lines or cables and recording test results.
  • Drill holes for wiring in wall studs, joists, ceilings, and floors.
  • Feed cables through access holes, roof spaces, and cavity walls to reach fixture outlets; then position and terminate cables, wires and strapping.
  • Access specific areas to string lines or install terminal boxes, auxiliary equipment, or appliances, using Lift, or by climbing ladders, or entering crawl spaces.
  • Using hand tools, and power tools.
  • Clean or maintain tools or test equipment.
  • Keep informed of new products and developments.
  • Demonstrate systems for customers and explain details.

Job Requirements:

  • Available to work emergency service hours upon request.
  • Customer travel time is usually within a 2 hour radius within our service area.
  • Availability for occasional overnight travel.
  • Driver’s license with good record.
  • Must be able to pass a police background check.
  • Working at Heights Training.
  • Scissor lift operation Training.
  • A professional appearance.
