ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skill, Experience) 

  • M.L.T. Must be registered with the C.M.L.T.O.
  • 3 years recent experience in the following areas: Biochemistry, Hematology and Immunohematology preferred.
  • Satisfactory attendance.

ACCOUNTABILITIES (Major Responsibilities of the Position)

  • Operates instruments and performs routine testing accurately and with precision.
  • Performs venipuncture, and micro-collections as required.
  • Operates, maintains all equipment and documents maintenance of all equipment according to stated policy, procedures and schedules.
  • Performs troubleshooting of instruments as is necessary.
  • Uses laboratory computer for all aspects of the job (entering tests, results, quality control, etc.).
  • Sends appropriate patient information as required, (i.e. Faxing, phoning, MOH, Pharmacy, etc.).
  • Performs all routine testing promptly in accordance to stated procedures.
  • Performs quality control procedures and documents results on a daily basis.
  • Orders department supplies (as authorized).
  • Prepares reagents, controls, solutions, etc. as required.
  • Participates in department continuing education.
  • Assists in practical instruction, and supervision of Medical Laboratory Students.
  • Prepares method procedures when required.
  • Collects and reports data as required including: Workload Measurement Systems (MIS) month end reports, Lab licensing month end reports, Quality Management reports etc. Documents anything unusual in any of these categories.
  • Reviews accuracy of all results prior to reporting.
  • Responsible for training new staff as required: teaching new instrumentation, procedures, quality control, maintenance, etc.
  • Required to aid in instrument and method evaluations.
  • Carries out other duties as requested by the Laboratory Manager or Charge Technologist.
