Responsible for all aspects of the controls system for Newterra’s water and wastewater treatment plants. They are responsible for developing the PLC, HMI, and other device programs in accordance with the engineering design package and customer requirements. In addition to program development, they will be part of system quoting, system engineering, factory acceptance testing, field startup and technical support.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support applications engineers in quoting systems to include hardware and labor for quote packages.
  • Develop system PLC and HMI programs (other devices as needed) using the appropriate IDE and working from the engineered drawings (P&ID, Electrical Schematics and Control Narrative).
  • Coordinate with engineering group and customer for any integration that may be required.
  • Test and configure controls hardware to ensure equipment will function in its future operating environment, fill out documentation and support additional testing requirements as needed.
  • Support field technicians remotely in the startup stages of operations as needed. Possible for travel to site as needed.
  • Interface with the customer integrations team as needed.
  • Provide both internal and external technical support and answer questions related to systems.
  • Provide system updates to new and legacy systems on an as needed basis.
  • Attend project meetings, continuously work to improve Newterra’s processes, accurately record project work hours.
  • Ensure programming of systems meets project budget and timelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in meetings as required for projects and other organizational requirements.
  • Continue to improve tools to increase efficiency in job function.
  • Coordinate with engineers and other departments to support functions of system integration.
  • Responsible for performing duties in a safe manner and promoting safety to others in accordance with Newterra’s safety policies and procedures.  This includes reporting all safety concerns, near-misses, and incidents.
  • Adhere to the company processes as detailed in Newterra’s online systems and programs and bring forward ideas for continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for completing all assigned training applicable to the position in the appropriate timeframe.
  • Complete all responsibilities while ensuring adherence to Newterra’s Delegation of Authority.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Instrumentation and Controls Technology Diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • Allen Bradley PLC’s, Studio 5000;
  • Codesys PLC Platforms (Schneider EcoStruxure ME)
  • Automation Direct PLC’s; DirectSoft 5 and C-More
  • Siemens S7 PLC’s;
  • Hart Programming
  • Control system fieldbuses (ModbusTCP/IP, EthernetIP, Modbus Serial)
  • Instrumentation configuration
  • Electrical Motor Controls including VFD Configuration and Integration
  • PID Control Loops
  • Experience integrating automated equipment or systems into manufacturing environment including design, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and support of automated equipment.
  • Previous experience with low voltage electrical systems 24VDC to 750VAC and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID).
  • Proven working knowledge of pumps, blowers, piping systems and other fluid handling equipment.
  • Travel may be required. Must have valid passport and driver’s license.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Electrical and electronics troubleshooting skills, experience with 4-20 control loops
  • HMI design experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

Regularly required to sit for prolonged periods; frequently required to stand, walk, and use business equipment daily such as a computer, copier, telephone, etc.; occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 15 lbs. Complex thinking and analysis required with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Generally, works in office environment, however, may be required to work on shop floor or visit client sites and may be exposed to indoor or outdoor industry specific elements such as loud noise, hazardous equipment, and materials. Company safety standards must be always followed.
