We are seeking kind-hearted, caring and qualified Companions and Personal Support Workers (PSW), able to work from 30 to 44 hours per week. Our clients expect the best service in a truly caring environment. Responsibilities:

The following is a guideline of possible duties to be performed in the course of working with a client. The Personal Support Worker's (PSW) duties are not limited to those listed.

  • Assistance with personal care which may include, but is not limited to:
  • Bathing, Grooming, Skin Care, Dressing, Toileting, Lifts/transfers, and Mobility assistance.
  • Assist clients with household tasks which include, but are not limited to Laundry, Making beds, Vacuuming, Wiping kitchen surfaces, Dusting furniture and other duties as directed by the Client Care Manager.
  • Assist clients with the preparation of meals that meet their specific dietary needs of the client.
  • Accompany the clients when needed to medical appointments, shopping trips or for walks as required. Permission must be obtained from the Client Care Manager in advance.
  • Operate mobility devices (e.g. transfer board) to aid in the lift/transfer of clients according to established guidelines for the safe and proper usage of such equipment.
  • Provide services in accordance with established Service/Care Plans designed to meet the specific needs of the client.
  • Interactively engage clients in the provision of their own care whenever possible and by actively listening and engaging in appropriate conversations/activities.
  • Keep up-to-date and accurate records of the client’s behaviour, care services provided, and overall well-being on the client’s Progress Report and as required.
  • Ensure confidentiality of client and CK personnel information.
  • Observe and report any changes and/or information concerning the well-being of clients or other CK personnel to the Client Care Manager in a timely manner.
  • Complete any required reports or documentation in accordance with CK’s policies and procedures.
  • Attend and actively participate in training, orientation and in-service sessions offered by Comfort Keepers.
  • Any other duties as directed by Comfort Keepers Management.

Qualifications:

  • Personal Support Worker or Health Care Aide certificate from a recognized institution with at least 2 years experience working in Homecare or with the elderly population
  • Current certificate in standard first aid and CPR maneuvers.
  • A valid Driver’s license and a good driving record are beneficial.

Additional Requirements:

  • Police Criminal Reference Check.
  • Must have strong critical thinking, initiative, creativity, as well as time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Written communication skills to complete client’s Progress Reports, Incident Reports and other required reports.
  • Ability to effectively work independently and/or as a team member.
  • Must be compassionate, passionate, patient and caring in nature.
  • Able to work under stressful conditions.
  • Must be physically and mentally fit to handle the demands of caregiving.
  • Ability to relate well with clients, colleagues, Supervisors, Comfort Keepers personnel and other health care professionals.
  • Capacity to understand the needs of seniors, persons with disabilities, caregivers and persons with an acute or chronic health condition.
  • The ability to speak multiple languages is a great asset.
