The Automotive Shop Manager oversees the day-to-day operation of the repair facility. They are responsible for providing oversight and direction in the safe and effective repair of customer vehicles. Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education
- Minimum 5 years experience (preferred) in the automotive industry
- Automotive technician’s license
- Valid Ontario G driver’s license
- Superior communication skills, strong organization skills, and exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to identify areas of improvement and to devise methods and procedures to increase efficiency
- Mechanical, technical, and electrical aptitude; troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment to achieve common goals
- Ability to plan, organize, work in a busy environment, and follow-up on daily tasks
- Ability to multitask and work well under pressure
- Excellent computer skills with knowledge of windows-based applications and repair-based software
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the accurate diagnosis, and proper and safe repair of vehicles.
- Acts as the lead diagnostician and the highest source of information for all service concerns and work process matters for both employees and customers.
- Monitors vehicle repairs and ensures technicians are working in an efficient and effective manner.
- Imparts a culture within the garage that recognizes the course of work is customer driven and focused.
- Develops and maintains a staff that values excellent customer service through effective training, supervision, coaching, and performance management.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, motivate, recognize, and hold accountable a repair team that will meet established objectives and targets for sales and profitability.
- Develops and implements training to ensure technicians are continuing to learn and improve their vehicle repair knowledge and skills and their safety awareness and practice.
- Works with office staff to properly understand customer concerns, repair requirements, and communicate effective course of repairs to satisfy customer needs.
- Understands, keeps informed, and complies with provincial and federal regulations that affect the business.
- Develops processes to maximize the efficiency of the department and the effective repair of automobiles.
- Keeps informed of new equipment and tools available and recommends purchases.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with customers to encourage repeat business.
- Ensures the proper care, storage and inventory of special tools and equipment.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with other departments.
- Maintains a professional appearance and a clean and organized work environment.
- Stays up to date on industry standards and any new innovations, materials, tools and/or processes that can benefit the company.
