The Faculty of Law is nationally and internationally recognized as a leading law school with a distinguished record of outstanding research and teaching, and a high level of student, faculty, and staff engagement. Reporting to the Director, Career Development, the Career Development Coordinator is responsible for administrative and program functions for the Career Development Office in the Faculty of Law. The Career Development Coordinator is an integral part of the Career Development Office, which consists of a small, but highly effective team, responsible for supporting the professional development of students in the Juris Doctor (JD) program.

The Career Development Coordinator primarily oversees the daily operations of the employer portfolio including coordinating major employer events, job postings, employer outreach and relationship management, internships, and mentorship programs. The Career Development Coordinator also participates in the development and execution of strategic plans in relation to employer and alumni expansion, programs, resources, job market research and job recruitment strategy for the Career Development Office. The Career Development Coordinator also maintains the Career Services Manager (CSM) database, which is the central hub for student, alumni, and employer career information and opportunities. The schedule for this position requires the Career Development Coordinator to work evenings and weekends during condensed periods of the recruitment cycles for the Career Development Office. This position acts as a point of contact for internship and professional experience programs, and facilitates connections between students, alumni, and potential employers. This position maintains regular communication with students and collaborates with employers and other departments and/or units on job opportunities and/or internships. This position guides employers through the employment partnership hiring process including job postings, company information sessions, interviewing, and tracking offers and acceptances. This position also coordinates and implements events including scheduling, promotion, recruitment, and logistics.

The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work evenings and weekends.

Required Education

  • Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent.
  • in business administration preferred or
  • in communications preferred or
  • in marketing preferred or
  • in education preferred

Required Experience

  • More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
  • Experience working in a comparable client-focused environment considered an asset.
  • Experience planning, coordinating and/or managing events or promotions considered an asset.
  • Experience developing, coordinating, and implementing student development and/or student experience programs considered an asset.
  • Experience in data, trend analysis and reporting considered an asset.
  • Experience working with diverse populations/equity deserving groups considered an asset.
  • Experience in writing, interviewing, reviewing, editing and/or proofreading internal and/or external communications and documents considered an asset (e.g., social media, policy manuals, newsletters, handbooks, legal documents, forms/templates, blogs, training/reference materials, technical documents, webinars, etc.).
  • Knowledge of advertising and/or sponsorship practices and trends in electronic communications and publications considered an asset.
  • Experience advising students considered an asset.
  • Experience in database administration/management, design and/or technologies considered an asset (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, and/or Oracle/DB2, relational databases, warehoused databases, etc.).
  • Experience with providing administrative support considered an asset (e.g., document editing, proofing, formatting and production, data entry, scheduling/coordinating meetings and/or travel arrangements, receiving/relaying messages, etc.).
  • Experience with web/graphics/audio/video editing tools is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience developing and delivering workshops considered an asset.
  • Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with experiential learning theory considered an asset.
